Challenge
- Smart grid strategy for Serbian DSO
We were engaged as a subcontractor to prepare a comprehensive study for the Distribution System Operator (DSO) in Serbia. The aim was to establish a tailored Smart Grid concept, strategy, and implementation plan that supports the modernization, expansion, and enhancement of the electrical distribution network. - Medium voltage distribution network automation:
In collaboration with a leading international partner, we provided assistance in implementing, coordinating, and supervising the automation of Serbia’s medium-voltage distribution network. The objectives included improving network efficiency, minimizing losses, reducing maintenance costs, and introducing an Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS).
Approach
Phase 1: Feasibility study
Comprehensive analysis has been conducted to design a strategy for the introduction and development of Smart Grid solutions within the Serbian DSO. This study served as the foundation for implementing Smart Grid technologies and aligned with the DSO’s long-term vision for modernization and expansion.
Phase 2: Project execution – ongoing activity
Following the adoption of the Feasibility Study, we are providing in-depth local expertise to ensure seamless execution of the project. Key responsibilities includs:
- Assisting with project execution while ensuring full compliance with Serbian regulations and technical standards.
- Supporting the design and specification of an Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) tailored to DSO needs.
- Coordinating the development of a unified management system to optimize network operations and scalability. This included creating an accurate representation of the distribution network for improved operational efficiency, and seamlessly integrating existing and new technologies.
- Defining and follow up implementation of a Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS) to enhance grid flexibility and renewable energy integration.
- Overseeing the delivery, installation, testing, and commissioning of energy equipment and telecommunication infrastructure.
- Monitoring implementation activities to ensure high-quality delivery of equipment and systems.
- Conduct regular progress evaluations and deliver detailed reports to stakeholders to ensure transparency and alignment throughout the project lifecycle.
Expected results
-
- Enhanced network reliability and operational efficiency through updated equipment and systems.
- Implemented a unified ADMS, significantly improving network monitoring and management capabilities.
- Reduced distribution losses and maintenance costs for the Serbian DSO.
This project underscores our commitment to enabling a sustainable and technologically advanced energy future in Serbia.
